The most important international contemporary jewelry exhibition, Schmuck 2020, will travel to Valencia to particiapte in Melting Point. Joieria Contemporània, from April 30 to May 31, in the temporary room of Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània.
This is the only time this exhibition, reference in the field of author jewellery, can be seen after the organization of «Handwerk & Design» has suspeded its International Fair, which was scheduled to be held in Munich (Germany), from March 5 to 15, in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The exhibition hosts a careful selection of more than 165 pieces of contemporary jewellery from 63 jewelers from 29 different countries, from which the three winners of the prestigious Herbert-Hofmann 2020 awards will be chosen.
In 2019, the winners with these coveted awards were Junwon Jung (Korea); Yutaka Minegishi (Japan) and Misato Seki (Japan), whose works can also be seen in the show. In addition, this year Schmuck pays tribute to the Australian jeweler Robert Baines with a retrospective of his work in the “Klassiker der Moderne”.
From the organization of Melting Point 2020 has highlighted that the presence of Schmuck in Valencia “supposes a boost to the activities of the Department of Jewelery of EASD València and a recognition of the role we want our city to play as a prominent place in the international scene of designer jewelry. ” “We all know that Schmuck is the international exhibition of reference in the world of contemporary jewelry, where the best artists are presented and where the most important emerging artists are projected, so it’s a pride to have this exhibition for the second time in our city, being an outstanding part of this 5th edition of Melting Point ”, they explain.
It should be noted that Schmuck exhibition will be part of Melting Point 2020, biennial of contemporary jewelery, organized by the Department of Jewellery of EASD València, which will fill the district of Ciutat Vella with author jewelry, from April 30 to May 3. On this occasion, there will be more than 40 jewelry exhibitions scheduled for this meeting that aims to present contemporary jewelry to the general public. To the exhibitions, other activities like conferences, performances or workshops are added.
It’s not the first time that the Schumck exhibition has come to Valencia. In 2012, the exhibition was already present at the MuVIM on the occasion of the first edition of Melting Point València.
On this occasion, 802 jewelers from 61 different countries submitted their application to participate in Schmuck 2020, within the Internationale Handwerksmesse in Munich. Of all of them, 63 have been selected to exhibit their pieces.
In figures, German jewelers are the most represented in the show, followed by Korean creatives and artists from the Netherlands. The only Spaniard in the national team is the Catalan jeweler Ramón Puig Cuyàs.
